Last week the state chapter of the international climate organization, 350 Colorado, was removed from the list of supporters of Colorado’s deceptive, destructive, and dangerous Proposition 137. This special interest-funded ballot measure could route up to $83 million in taxpayer dollars every year towards scientifically-debunked “wildfire prevention” logging on public lands hidden under the Orwellian guise of “conservation.”

Logging is not “conservation” and tree removal in the forest can never “prevent wildfires,” as Prop. 137 backers falsely claim against the 100 percent consensus of peer-reviewed science.
Such “fuel reduction” typically includes clearcutting and sale of large-diameter trees by logging contractors, proven facts dishonestly denied by backers to deceive Coloradans into supporting public lands extraction and spread without fact-checking by some media outlets.

The email reply from 350 Colorado’s executive director to a local citizen read, “We had recently been convinced to support this measure as we were told it would provide funds for resilience efforts, not knowing this side the conversation. Our Climate Policy Analyst is exploring it more, as it seems we may have been misinformed by other allies.”

This raises serious concerns as to what backers of Prop. 137, the $1.8 billion global land management corporation, The Nature Conservancy, and corporate foundation-funded Western Resource Advocates and Conservation Colorado, have been telling actual conservation groups—or, more specifically, not telling them—to coerce them to put their good reputations on the line to unknowingly endorse more industrial resource extraction than the state has seen in possibly a century.
What other NGOs listed as supporters of Prop. 137 were deceived into signing on to potentially tens of thousands of acres per year of industrial logging ($83 million / $3,000 per acre = 27,666)?
Colorado’s Proposition 137 is opposed by the Colorado Democratic Party, League of Women voters, Indivisible Colorado, several county Republican chapters and boards of commissioners, scientists at CU Boulder and Colorado State University, national environmental organizations such as Center for Biological Diversity, Western Watersheds Project, and WildEarth Guardians, Colorado’s grassroots conservation community, forest-edge residents, bi-partisan/non-partisan taxpayer advocates, and many more.
