31 Conservation Groups Caution Colorado Voters About The Nature Conservancy and Deceptive Proposition 137

Thirty-one conservation groups from across the U.S. and overseas have signed an open letter warning Colorado voters about The Nature Conservancy’s controversial—and usually hidden—industrial land extraction agenda as exemplified by Proposition 137.

The letter, “Colorado Voters: Don’t Get Burned by The Nature Conservancy,” recounts the $1.8 billion budget global “working lands” management NGO’s measurable harm to forests, wildlife, and environmental justice communities through natural resource extraction in the form of industrial logging.

Signers highlight Colorado’s Proposition 137 as the latest of The Nature Conservancy’s “ecologically disastrous ‘greenwashing’ schemes, including its promotion of expanding logging as a supposed wildfire and climate ‘solution.’”

Letter signers were among the 158 faith, justice, and environmental groups behind a previous open letter to The Nature Conservancy, “Stop Perpetuating Forest Destruction, Pollution, Carbon Emissions, and Environmental Injustice,” published in the bombshell exposé The Nature Conspiracy in 2022.

The new letter urges Coloradans to “investigate The Nature Conservancy itself—particularly its corporate partners and corporate board members—and the many examples in the report linked above illustrating TNC’s troubling behavior towards local communities and the natural environment.”

Proposition 137 is opposed by the Colorado Democratic Party, League of Women Voters, Center for Biological Diversity, Western Watersheds Project, WildEarth Guardians, the state’s most reputable independent scientists, Colorado’s grassroots conservation community, bi-partisan/non-partisan taxpayer advocates, and many others.

Protect Colorado’s Land, Communities, and Tax Dollars is the ballot issue committee registered with Colorado Secretary of State to oppose Proposition 137 at NoProp137.com.
