Right now, 116,000 acres in the Pike National Forest (30 miles southwest of Denver)—including endangered species habitat, old-growth forest, and 85,000 acres of Roadless Areas—are on the chopping block as a part of a fake “emergency” logging scheme recently expanded by the Trump Administration to 112 million acres, 59% of National Forests across the U.S.
Unfortunately, despite multiple press releases to all Front Range media outlets and two hikes to the proposed “Lower North South Vegetation Management” with a total of 60 people, there has been a 100% media blackout on what may be the largest public lands logging project in Colorado history.
At this point, short of litigation (which is on the table), we believe our best bet to call attention to the “Lower North South Vegetation Management”—and to stop it!—is for concerned citizens to contact U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (in whose district much of the logging would occur and who campaigned on environmental issues) as well as your own U.S. Representative.
We encourage you to learn more about the “Lower North South Vegetation Management” here. You can either write your own comments to Rep. Pettersen asking her to protect our biodiverse, carbon-storing public forests or use this pre-written “Mad Libs” comment and copy and paste it into an email and fill in the blanks (or simply remove the blanks and leave as is).
Please send to the following emails for Rep. Pettersen’s staffers:
Delaney Deskin, Legislative Aide: delaney.deskin@mail.house.gov
Hannah Mullen, District Director: hannah.mullen@mail.house.gov
And be sure to cc or bcc eia@eco-integrityalliance.org so we know it’s getting out there, and we’ll follow up with Congress in the weeks to come and keep you updated.
